Inside a Foundations class

What a class looks like
Fifty calm, focused minutes.
Each class starts with breath and a short warm up on the reformer, so you learn how the springs, straps and footbar feel before anything moves quickly. Your instructor sets the springs with you and explains why.
From there we work through footwork, bridging, arm work and a side-lying series at a steady pace, with clear cues and time to set up between exercises. We finish with a stretch and a moment to notice what changed.
Expect to work hard enough to feel it the next day, never so hard that you lose your form. Most people take Foundations for four to eight weeks before moving into Reformer Flow.

What members say
Member review
“I had never touched a reformer. Jess set everything up with me and explained each spring. Six weeks later I moved into Flow and felt ready.”

FAQ
Do I need any Pilates experience?
No. Foundations is built for first-timers. Your instructor sets up the reformer with you and offers options for every exercise.
How is Foundations different from Reformer Flow?
Foundations moves more slowly, with more time on set-up and technique. Flow links exercises into a continuous full-body sequence at a moderate intensity.
Is it okay to come if my back is stiff?
Mild stiffness is usually fine; tell your instructor before class. If you have pain that is acute or not yet assessed, book a clinical assessment with our physiotherapist first.
What should I bring and wear?
Fitted activewear, grip socks and a water bottle. Grip socks are required and available at the front desk.
How many people are in a class?
Ten at most, one per Merrithew reformer, so your instructor can see and correct every rep.
