First visit

What to expect
on your first visit.

Your first class is planned around you being new. Here is how it runs, from the moment you walk through the door to the final stretch.

Meet the instructors

A calm welcome

Check in at the front desk, store your things and meet your instructor, who will ask about injuries, goals and how you like to be cued.

Ten reformers, never more

Small classes mean your instructor can see and correct every person in the room, including you, for the whole class.

Springs set with you

You will learn how to set your springs, footbar and straps, then be talked through each move as you go. No guesswork.

Fifty unhurried minutes

A breath-led warm-up, a full-body flow and a slow stretch to finish. Rest whenever you need to; every move has an easier option.

How to prepare

Come as
you are.

You do not need to be flexible, strong or experienced to start. Reformer Pilates is low impact and every exercise can be made easier or harder, so you can always rest and reset.

Eat lightly an hour or two before class, bring water, and tell your instructor about any injury or recent surgery before you begin. If anything feels wrong, stop and let us know.

What to wear and bring

Fitted, comfortable activewear that will not catch on the springs

Grip socks, required on the reformer ($22 in store)

A water bottle: filtered water and tea are on tap

Nothing else: showers and fresh towels are here

Ten minutes to spare, or fifteen on your first visit

Google review

“I had never been on a reformer and worried I would hold everyone up. Ella set my springs, explained every cue and checked in after class. Three weeks in, I am booked twice a week.”

Do I need Pilates experience to start?

No. Most people start with Reformer Foundations, a beginner class that teaches the reformer, the breath and the basics of alignment. If you would like one-on-one time first, book a First private.

Which class should I book first?

Reformer Foundations. It runs four days a week and is built for first-timers and anyone returning after a break. Once the reformer feels familiar, move into Reformer Flow, then Sculpt and Burn.

Can I claim Pilates on my health fund?

Clinical Pilates sessions led by our physiotherapist may be eligible for a rebate under extras cover, depending on your fund and level of cover. Group reformer classes generally are not. Check with your fund before booking.

I have an injury or back pain. Can I still come?

Often, yes, but tell us before your first class. For a current injury, ongoing pain or recent surgery, start with a Clinical assessment so our physiotherapist can recommend suitable classes and any modifications.

What should I wear?

Fitted, comfortable activewear that lets you move freely, as loose tops can catch on the springs and straps. Grip socks are required on the reformer, and it is best to leave jewellery at home.

How early should I arrive?

Arrive 10 minutes early, or 15 on your first visit, so we can check you in, show you around and set up your reformer before class begins.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancel at least 12 hours before class in the app or online and your credit is returned. Inside 12 hours, or if you do not arrive, the credit is used. Intro offers follow the same rule.

How many people are in a class?

Never more than ten. We have ten Merrithew reformers, so every class is small enough for your instructor to see and correct you throughout.

How long is a class?

Group reformer and mat classes run for 50 minutes and Restore for 45. Clinical Pilates 1:1 sessions are 45 minutes; privates, duets and Clinical small group sessions are 55.

Is there parking, and somewhere to change?

Yes. There is free parking out front, and the studio has showers, fresh towels, filtered water and tea, so you can come straight from work or head off after class.
