Inside a Mat class

What a class looks like
Fifty minutes on the mat.
Each class starts lying down with breath and a slow warm up for the spine, so you find a neutral pelvis and your deep core before anything gets harder. Without springs to support you, your own control does the work.
From there we move through the classic mat sequence: roll downs, bridging, the hundred, leg circles, a side-lying series and back extension. Rings, balls and bands come in to add a little resistance or support, depending on the exercise and the day.
Expect a steady, moderate class that leaves you warm and long through the spine. Because it needs only a mat, much of what you learn travels home with you.

Benefits
Bodyweight control
Learn to move from your centre without springs to lean on, one exercise at a time.
A practice that travels
Every exercise needs only a mat, so you can keep your routine going at home or away.
Support from small props
Rings, balls and bands add gentle resistance or support, so each exercise meets you where you are.
What members say
Member review
“I travel for work most months and Mia’s class gave me a routine I can do in a hotel room. The ring work is my favourite part of the week.”

FAQ
Is Mat Pilates easier than reformer?
Not always. Without springs for support, your own control does more of the work. Your instructor offers lighter and harder options for every exercise, so the class suits all levels.
What is the difference between reformer and mat Pilates?
Reformer classes use a sliding carriage, springs and straps for resistance and support. Mat Pilates uses your body weight and small props. Both build the same control, and the reformer makes each exercise easier to adjust.
Do I need to bring my own mat?
No. Mats, rings, balls and bands are set out before class. You are welcome to bring your own mat if you prefer.
Can I use a class pack for Mat Pilates?
Yes. Memberships and class packs cover every group format, Mat Pilates included.
How many people are in a class?
Ten at most, so your instructor can see and correct every rep.
